BUCK CARROLL & BREAKING NEW GROUND—TALKIN ABOUT HOBOS [September 2005 Issue]
No Label, No Number

This most recent recording project from Buck Carroll and Breakin' New Ground is apparently already enjoying considerable airplay in selected radio markets. "Talkin' About Hobos" is an excellently conceived production comprised of a dozen selections, several of which were written by friends of the band, Bill Castle and Larry Fraley. Some of the more memorable performances include the title song, "Stone Cold Loneliness" and "Knowin' That It's Over." One particular highlight is the band's rendition of the instrumental "Rebecca." Judging from the contents of "Talkin' About Hobos," Buck Carroll and Breakin' New Ground is one bluegrass band that is truly on the move.

I can't tell you how many demos of CD's that I get from all over the country each year.  So when my good friend Mike Parsons wanted me to listen to a new CD by some of his friends in West Virginia, "Step Into The Blue", I was hoping that it was not just another demo tape that would take up space on a shelf.  The first cut he played me was "Helen", a song that my brother Rex wrote years ago and it brought back some great memories.  I realized that this CD would not take up space on a shelf or in a box, this CD was going in my CD player.  The cut on "Helen" was just great, and I very much enjoyed the entire CD.  Bluegrass was my first love, so boys ... keep up that great sound.

Vern Gosdin

I love to perform and write what I call real traditional, hard core, country music, and being able to open shows for Vern Gosdin all over the country is something very special for me.  But bluegrass has always been what I really want to do.  When Vern Gosdin and I go down the road on the bus we always have our bluegrass CD's close by.  When I received my copy of "Step Into The Blue" including Rex Gosdin's "Helen", I was blown away.   What a sound, and what a group.  Keep it hard core, and keep it bluegrass.
